The Maternal New-born and Child Health Week is a sustained approach to universal coverage of high-impact, low-cost interventions through the health system. It occurs bi-annually, with the aim of reducing morbidities and mortalities amongst women and children.
The 1st round of MNCHW 2022 in the State was held from Wednesday 10th to Sunday 14th August 2022. There was a mop-up activity in all 23 LGAs from 15th to 17th August 2022. It is sponsored by the Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board and supported by Nutrition International (NI), Association for Reproductive and Family Health (ARFH), and UNICEF.
There are key interventions and services provided during the week which includes: Vitamin A supplementation, Deworming, MUAC (Mid Upper Arm Circumference) screening, Immunization, Growth Monitoring & Promotion, Cervical Cancer Screening, Antenatal Care Services, Free Delivery services, Essential New-born Care Services, Iron and Folic Acid supplementation, Intermittent Preventive treatment for malaria in pregnancy using Sulphadoxine Pyrimethamine (SPs), Family Planning services, HIV Counselling & Testing (HCT) Services, Birth Registration, Health Education services etc. These services are provided free of charge.
