The reactivation of the Local Government Primary Health Care Authority organized by the Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board held on the 23rd and 24th of October, 2023 at the RSPHCMB’s conference hall. The Local Government Primary Health Care Authority is a body saddled with the responsibility of overseeing all Primary Health Care activities in the Local Government Area (LGA), and ensuring that the Primary health care system at the LGA level runs effectively and efficiently.

The reactivation meeting was well attended by different dignitaries including the Executive Secretary of the RSPHCMB, Dr Kinikanwo Green, the General Manager of Rivers Sate Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA), Engr Adah Napoleon Okwudiri, Directors of the RSPHCMB, the Local Government Primary Health Care Authority team comprising of the Supervisor for Health as part-time Chairman, Secretary (Medical officer or Health) who is the Administrative Head, The Head of Accounts Department; A representative of Local Government Council in charge of water; Two Heads of Primary Health Care Facilities in the Local Government Area; a representatives of Local Government Health Programme Managers; and One representative from the Communities in the Local Government Council.



The Executive Secretary in his opening remark stated categorically, the importance of this meeting, which was to reactivate the Local Government Primary Health Care Authority, adequately inform the authority of their roles and responsibilities and also to encourage them to actively participate in the supervision of Primary Health Care (PHC) activities across the LGAs.

One of the highlights of the meeting was the presentation by the General Manager of Rivers Sate Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA), who enlightened the Authority on the roles and responsibilities of the LGA Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Coordinator in health promotion and disease prevention.

Another major highlight was the distribution of laptops, projectors, printers and screens to all Medical Officers of Health in the State. This is to ensure that trainings, meetings and other office operations at the LGA level are done effectively and efficiently.
