Fifty (50) health workers were trained including Doctors, Nurses, Community Health Workers. The training focused on relearning basic facts about CVD and CKD, its pathophysiology, risk factors, early warning signs, management and conditions for referrals. Sessions on genetic study of CKD by MyAfroDNA was also part of this workshop.
There were practical sessions that bothered on an in-depth review of the entire consultation process to identify patients with low, intermediate or high risk of developing CVD and CKD.
The PHC workforce is being re-equipped with the right skills on prevention and management of key non-communicable diseases in urban and rural communities in the State.
Conclusively, the capacity development workshop on the management of CVD and CKD has equipped Health care workers of the Board to adequately manage patients with CVD and CKD, immediately institute appropriate resuscitative measures and refer promptly when the need arises. Ultimately, this will greatly reduce the incidence of CVD and CKD morbidity and mortality in Rivers State.
